home in the clouds

enjoying the vibes in the new place so far, just wish I could get the rest of my furniture, equipment etc over here. it’s been raining heavily for a few days and this morning, the village is encased in fog and light drizzle. where’s those lyrics to ‘patience’ again…

I’m also now on wireless broadband, which aside from being much slower (which isn’t a big concern) is also capped at usage of 5 gig per month (which is). so I’m having to reluctantly wean myself off so much net radio, which has been invaluable in keeping me up to speed on what’s happening in the indie and fringe markets - where I call home.

and if I can get everything set up and back on track with recording, may well be ‘home’ again.

in through the out door

as often seems to happen in life, most everything has fallen together in a few short days. the girls have found a nice place in sydney’s inner west, we spent yesterday loading/unloading trucks and moving their stuff down. they’re in a good locale, I hope they’ll be happy there.

now back to my semi-empty house/cafe. one of the original options reappeared on the radar and the deal closed in short order. I’ll be living less than 500 meters from my current locale, which makes the physical side of the move pretty easy.

it’s the psychological side that I’ll enjoy the most. for the first time in six years, I’ll have a place that will be my “own”. it’s an essential element to allowing me to find the time, strength and determination to get back on track with the album, shows, tours etc. there’s still an ever-growing stack of bills and debts from the cafe biz, but under the new lease arrangement, I think I can hold my end together.

as james brown used to say, I feel good.

homeward through the haze

not much has changed, everything’s still in a holding pattern. no suitable houses have eventuated for me in the area, so I’m staying put for the foreseeable future. some little trickles of extra work have come in, but it’s not nearly enough to sustain me in the wake of the biz closing. will be brushing up my best negotiating skills in order to keep it all together.

the gypsy gal has returned and is trying to secure a place to move in the city. I’m actually glad that this chapter in my life is drawing to a close. there’s much there that is good, but we seem to bring out the worst in each other far too often.

so the week ahead: I’m doing a spot at the popstuds songwriter showcase at the unity on tuesday night; gig with the blues trio on saturday and a sunday afternoon solo spot. my son callum is coming down on friday, we’ll be catching up on some much-missed dad&son time.

happy b-day for tomorrow to annalisse. it’s been so great to reconnect after all the years, your friendship and support has been so instrumental - pun unintended - to me these past weeks.
