Friday, March 27th, 2009funniest thing I’ve read in yonks.
funniest thing I’ve read in yonks.
trade at the new cafe’s been much tougher than we’d originally thought. at present, we’re basically working weekdays in a frenzy in order to keep the doors open. is this any healthy way to live survive? I’m not thinking it. we’ll keep a very close watch on the whole market over this much-lauded ‘easter tourist season’. then we’ll decide whether all the stress, time, money, sacrifices et al are really worth it for the long run.
yes, sacrifices. since opening this place, I’ve had to turn down pretty much every gig offer in the city. the blues pirates album will be out soon, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to perform at the opening.
originally we’d thought we’d have enough trade to justify hiring in an extra staff member so I could duck down the hill for a good gig. but that ain’t happening. and I’m missing playing. a lot. I’m looking at all my friends touring around europe, playing uk festivals, doing sxsw, kerrville, telluride. I can only get as far as the pub across the road because I need to be in the kitchen at 6am.
all that may change in a few short months….
happy b-day to the gypsy gal. I still don’t know why you put up with me, my demons, my moodswings, my baggage - but I’m fortunate and so very lucky that you do. as I’d posted last year, more people we know love you than love me. and that’s how it should be. sagapo para polli.
not much to really post about. this is probably largely due to the presence of twitter in my life, which I can now update by sms. but not much of note has happened, just keeping the cafe, the house, the creditors, the gypsy gal and my sanity all together.
scrabble update: 46 games, 74% won, high game score 459, best word score 158 (LOVELORN).
almost adopted a dog, but the back fencing still needs mucho work. other priorities come first, such as repairing and re-registering the gypsy gal’s car.
no band rehearsals this week, off to the city. I’ll likely be around the guitar shop tomorrow and/or wednesday for a while if anyone’s around.
giving st. paddy’s day a miss again. tried to get to the annual bash at the welcome last year, it was so packed we just gave up.
I’m in agreeance with many, the new facebook home page really does suck.
next wednesday’s the gypsy gal’s birthday - but don’t let on that y’all know…
and happy b-day to nicole.
had a complete day today without my usual surroundings, music and cooking. aside from a quick visit from a supplier and some email, I didn’t have any cafe-related tasks to attend to. band rehearsal’s been put off for the week, but we’re good to go for friday at the impy pub.
I have two new webjobs at hand, both are from good pals so they’re pleasant tasks. and came in just in time, after the past couple of weeks dismal trade (plus more of my grafix clients receding into the distance due to financial constraints), we might just get through the next few days. one’s a jewelery business, the other a music artist. I’ll post links when they’re complete.
I now have another hobby-type addiction. online worldwide scrabble. I saw it come up quite a bit on facebook, had a look and now I’m hooked. I’ve always been a huge cryptic crossword fan anyway, so it makes sense. never had much time or interest in fast-car-shoot-em-up-fly-spaceship type of games, but this one gives my brain a workout. so far, I’ve won 64% of my games with a high score of 415, and word score of 98. find me on facebook if you want a game.
the cafe’s now on twitter. be a follower and get some cheap food & drink deals. and follow my insane mid-service rants. to tweet is sublime.
no depression, the best - the very best - music magazine about roots & americana music, is now becoming community-driven. should be very cool.
